NSW State Training Report for 10 April 2011.

The first NSW State Training session for 2011 was a success. There were a number of students from State affliated clubs who attended and participated in the training session. Students from as far away as the central coast to the blue mountains travelled specifically for this session.

The President of Taekwondo Australia Hassan Iskandar was in attendance, and was invited to address and welcome all the students, officials and spectators. NSW Executive member, respected Head Instructor and Coach Peter Xenos also provided a warm welcome to all for the NSW State Training program for 2011. He then proceed to invite all the head instructors, coaches, referees and officials to participate and contribute to this session to ensure it's success.

The Two hour session commenced with warm ups, drills and finished with student sparing in an environment closely replicating state competition with accredited referees and scoring systems.

The State training coordination team wish to thank all the referees, coaches and athletes who attended this session with a special thanks to Master Chris Pennington for his hard work assisting with various roles throughout the day.

The Next NSW State training session has been scheduled for the 22 May 2011, and we look forward to building on our successes and delivering a program that assists athletes in reaching their peak competition potential.

Introducing the Taekwondo NSW State League

A player ranking system will be introduced for all Black Belt athletes over 14 years old. Split by division, the top 4 NSW athletes will be ranked A, B, C or D.

The purpose of the league is to promote healthy competition amongst our athletes and encourage further development amongst the senior ranks of NSW athletes.

A = Gold, B = Silver, C = player who lost to A, D = player who lost to B.

At every NSW State Competition, the slate is wiped clean and all spots are up for grabs. In between competitions, rankings can shift based on both attendance and performance at State Training sessions.

There will be grey areas, such as when a division is merged, or when an interstate competitor enters a division. A discretionary decision will need to be made in these cases, but rest assured, if players achieve a black and white result, they will get the appropriate ranking.

This is a new idea which will be implemented based on the results of the NSW State Competition on the 1st of August 2010.

June 6th - Referee Seminar and Open Forum Review

A referee seminar and open forum was held on June 6th. It was a positive and productive session. Here are some of the outcomes.

  • The referee board is asking any Head instructor who is interested in hosting (in their area) the next referee seminar scheduled for Sunday 25th July to respond by 15th June 2010.
  • The Referee seminar will be split into bite site sessions
    • Morning session before lunch will be open to all (players all color belt who wish to educate for competition rules , coaches, instructors and head instructors)
    • Afternoon session for those who wish to gain referee accreditation
    • Morning session only = $35
    • Rule Book = $11
    • Both Sessions + Accreditation + Rule Book = $85
  • There is increased concern about the treatment of referees by coaches. Abusive coaches will be reported to the arbitration board and removed from the venue if behaviour is deemed inappropriate. We need to encourage our referees and give them vital experience.

Athlete Funding Policy for Taekwondo NSW

The state executive has worked hard in conjunction with our members to compile the following policy in relation to athlete funding. This is an exciting and positive initiative which aims to ease the financial strain on NSW's elite athletes, and to encourage participation for all athletes to engage in the NSW State Training Program.

1) All player funding will be sourced exclusively from the State Training Account. Every athlete who attends State Training is contributing to player development.
2) This funding program is designed to assist players to attend international sparring competitions.
3) Funding is limited to NSW players attending Taekwondo Australia sanctioned international events.
4) The fund is only accessible to National Sports Commission (NSC) approved athletes.
5) The maximum (and target) allowance is $300 per athlete per event. This amount is subject to availability of funds in the State Training Account.

NSW's Brilliant Volunteers
Who said the volunteer spirit is dying out? Taekwondo NSW has plenty - hard working and dedicated people who are willing to put in a massive effort for little personal gain, thriving on the satisfaction of contributing to something really worthwhile. I will try to list them all out, but not just yet for fear of leaving someone out. The Taekwondo Australia community thanks you for a huge effort.

Referees and Judges
Long days concentrating for a long time... very few thank-yous and a lot of complaints - thats the way of the referee/judge. Thanks go out to all Taekwondo Australia referees and judges who contributed to a very successful event.

News - State Training

The State Training recommenced with new NSW High Performance Coach, Master Jong Man Hong last 1 September 2007 held at Master Yang's dojang in Belmore. There were 31 red and black belt participants of various age groups and from various clubs throughout NSW. The training focussed on developing kyorugi techniques, stamina, confidence, flexibility and coordination and was aimed at helping the players who will be competing in the upcoming Australian Open National Championships to be held at Adelaide, South Australia on 20-23 September 2007.

A five-person Committee was formed and assisted Master Hong during the state training. The committee members are:

  • Master Jong Man Hong (Chairman)
  • Marwan Hussein
  • Robert Cooley
  • Dianne Carn
  • Natalia Sangalang

The next state training is scheduled on 6 October 2007 to be held at Health & Fitness Studio, Blacktown Leisure Centre, Sentry Drive, Stanhope Gardens. Competition News

There are some exciting announcements to make ahead of the upcoming state championships

  • We are expanding to 4 courts for free sparring. Therefore the game lengths have been adjusted as follows.

    colour 2 x 1.5 mins

    black 3 x 1 mins
    colour 2 x 1 mins

  • National Qualification Criteria: 1st, 2nd and both 3rd place competitors in free sparring will qualify to compete at the nationals in September.

Protest / Dispute resolution Process

Should any dispute arise on competition day, the following process is to be followed

  1. Get a Protest Form from the Arbitration Board, and fill it out.
  2. Lodge your protest form with non-refundable $100 to the Arbtitration Board.
  3. The Arbitration Board will make a judgement which must be adhered to.
  4. Any subsequent issues / appeals are to be issued to the NSW executive in a letter.

Coach and Student Registration

There is a national crackdown on student and coach accreditation, which will be enforced at the upcoming NSW state tournament

It has been discovered that some players have competed without up to date insurance. This is a very serious matter. Additionally, this is only fair to the vast majority of members who keep all their memberships up to date.

Coaches - you MUST have a current NCAS card to coach at tournaments. A head instructor card does not count.

Players - you MUST have a current TA registration card at weigh in and on tournament day. Excuses such as "I forgot it", and "It hasnt arrived yet" will not be accepted. You need to sort your membership out now if you have not done so already.
