Taekwondo Australia Nationals - a Resounding Success!

The Taekwondo NSW tracksuits have TEAM NSW emblazened across the back. Nothing better encapsulates the way in which the Nationals were hosted - a great team working in harmony. Many moving parts came together to pull off a successful nationals.

NSW's Brilliant Volunteers
Who said the volunteer spirit is dying out? Taekwondo NSW has plenty - hard working and dedicated people who are willing to put in a massive effort for little personal gain, thriving on the satisfaction of contributing to something really worthwhile. I will try to list them all out, but not just yet for fear of leaving someone out. The Taekwondo Australia community thanks you for a huge effort.

Referees and Judges
Long days concentrating for a long time... very few thank-yous and a lot of complaints - thats the way of the referee/judge. Thanks go out to all Taekwondo Australia referees and judges who contributed to a very successful event.

The Taekwondo Australia and Taekwondo NSW Executive Teams
Before and during competition, there are always some urgent and important decisions needing to be made. Both the Taekwondo Australia and NSW executive teams always provided solutions and positive outcomes to bring the event together.

Sydney Olympic Park Sports Center - Venue and Venue Staff
The Sydney Olympic Park Sports Center is the premium venue in the country for Taekwondo competition. The crowd gets a great view of the action from an elevated viewpoint, while maintaining a secure and manageable field of play. A great venue is the platform on which a 1st class event can be hosted. Thanks to Ched, Michael and Peter who were professional, flexible and very helpful. A special mention also for Yvonne who is always friendly and ready to help in any way she can.

Well Done Sam!

Within 2 weeks of supporting grass roots Taekwondo at the NSW state championships, Sam Loiacono was at the very top level - refereeing at the Beijing Olympics. Great job Sam!

NSW's Sam Loiacono to referee at Beijing Olympics

Congratulations go to Sam for earning his spot on the 2008 Beijing Olympic referee team. Well done Sam and good luck.

Some other Australian referees also made it quite far in the Olympic selection process. All Aussie referees are a credit to our sport and country, and deserve our support. Keep it up, we cant compete without you!

NSW Open Championships - Information

Daylight Savings ends on Saturday night
On Saturday night you get an extra hour sleep, or an extra hour trying to sleep, depending on your stress levels. If you turn up at the Sports Centre on Sunday and no-one is there, you probably forgot daylight savings has just ended. Sit tight, the venue doors will open at 7:30am - adjusted time.

Volunteers Needed
We are looking for some volunteers, particularly in the area of directing players to courts. The ideal volunteer is assertive and polite, someone who is prepared to take control without ruffling feathers. We could also use a couple of technical / computer minded people. Please email matt@tkdnsw.org.au or call 0410 816 836 if you can help.

Daedo Product Sales
Ali Khalil is the NSW sales rep for Daedo, and will be retailing Taekwondo equipment at the venue. This is a great chance to purchase any Taekwondo gear you need.

NSW tracksuits and T-Shirts
Order forms will be available for NSW tracksuits and T-shirts. You can order and pay for your NSW tracksuit on comp day. Cash only please.

News - State Training

The State Training recommenced with new NSW High Performance Coach, Master Jong Man Hong last 1 September 2007 held at Master Yang's dojang in Belmore. There were 31 red and black belt participants of various age groups and from various clubs throughout NSW. The training focussed on developing kyorugi techniques, stamina, confidence, flexibility and coordination and was aimed at helping the players who will be competing in the upcoming Australian Open National Championships to be held at Adelaide, South Australia on 20-23 September 2007.

A five-person Committee was formed and assisted Master Hong during the state training. The committee members are:

  • Master Jong Man Hong (Chairman)
  • Marwan Hussein
  • Robert Cooley
  • Dianne Carn
  • Natalia Sangalang

The next state training is scheduled on 6 October 2007 to be held at Health & Fitness Studio, Blacktown Leisure Centre, Sentry Drive, Stanhope Gardens. Registration is to commence at 2:30pm with training to start at 3:00pm sharp for a 2 hour session. Training fee is $10 to be paid at registration. Participants are to bring their own protective gear and equipment (head gear, chest protector, arm protectors, shin guards, mouth guard, gloves, water bottle and kicking pad).

Protest / Dispute resolution Process

Should any dispute arise on competition day, the following process is to be followed

  1. Get a Protest Form from the Arbitration Board, and fill it out.
  2. Lodge your protest form with non-refundable $100 to the Arbtitration Board.
  3. The Arbitration Board will make a judgement which must be adhered to.
  4. Any subsequent issues / appeals are to be issued to the NSW executive in a letter.

Coach and Student Registration

There is a national crackdown on student and coach accreditation, which will be enforced at the upcoming NSW state tournament

It has been discovered that some players have competed without up to date insurance. This is a very serious matter. Additionally, this is only fair to the vast majority of members who keep all their memberships up to date.

Coaches - you MUST have a current NCAS card to coach at tournaments. A head instructor card does not count.

Players - you MUST have a current TA registration card at weigh in and on tournament day. Excuses such as "I forgot it", and "It hasnt arrived yet" will not be accepted. You need to sort your membership out now if you have not done so already.
